The Making Of
Somewhere Between Then And
Now
|
|
*the album was recorded mostly by Stevie D. on & off through out the period of April-May 2001. Tom Crooke helped record during the first sessions. *the tracks this is how much you care, for you, between us, there's just something about you that hurts me, and one more chance were songs originally written in 98 during Pretty Polly's initial run. *Somewhere Between Then & Now was originally concieved as an EP, but the rehearsals during March 2001 went so well, that Pretty Polly ended up writing a full album's worth of material. *although all the initial music tracks were complete by April 2001 during the first sessions, these early recordings were scraped & completely re-recorded because the band felt it wasn't emotional enough. *the lyrics and melodies to the track obsolete were written at the last minute the day before the vocal session & after the music was already recorded. obsolete was the last track the band wrote for the album. *the title for 6ick 6ick 6ick (the anti-everyone song) was concieved after the first time the band played it during a rehearsal & Steve said the song was "sick". *the band recorded the individual tracks for the album in the same order that it ended up being sequenced. the order was always established from the beginning based on the order of a set they played & bootlegged in 98. *the song a prayer for rain was written after Rob G. scribbled the lyrics on a napkin one night after a rehearsal. the song started out with only lyrics & a melody. *The vocal track for There's Just Something About You That Hurts Me was recorded in one take. *the front cover photo was taken at the Cedarhurst train station on a beautiful sunday afternoon. *Although Rob G. played the bass tracks on the album,
original bassist Matt Campbell joined the band for one gig. The very
first one to promote the full length. After that, the band auditioned
numerous bassists until finding John Walsh who joined a few months later. |
