9/20/04:
UPDATE! Hey folks. Steve
and I would like to thank our true friends for showing their unbelievable
support during this transition period. Things are going excellently. First
and foremost, Steve and I have mapped out the blueprints for two brand
new songs. One, continue's right off of the new CD's last track 'And
All You're Lacking Is Substance', and the other is very melodic ala
'Lesson Learned'. Auditions are going well. We have one friend
whom we jammed with, who would make a fantastic addition to the band,
but we're going to try out a few more people this week to see how things
feel. Much like with the CD, we'd prefer not to rush into this commitment.
Expect an anouncement soon. If anything, this past week has let me reflect
on all the great people we've had the chance to work with in the past.
We still maintain good friendships with Johnnie Walsh (support his new
band, Soul River), Matt Campbell, and Frokus. (aka the original
Matt C.) We'd like to thank them & everyone else who's helped us out
along the way & continued to show their support. (Vin & Wilkie
especially. You guys are THE best!) Cd's almost upon us with more to come.
(hint, hint) Mark my words. We WILL be back. -rg.
9/13/04:
I'm sorry to report that Steve and
I have decided to part ways with our current bass player Mike. The band
has a very distinct goal to reach and we'd like to set up some auditions
as soon as possible. We have a few people in mind at the moment, and we'll
be trying out others thru-out the month, but we don't want anyone to be
discouraged to get in touch with us and give it a shot. If you are a bass
player or know or anyone that might fit in with our style of music, please
have them contact us at prettypollyrg@aol.com.
We'd prefer someone with some experience, their own equipment and their
own transportation. Preferably from New York or Long Island. (although
if you were willing to relocate, that shows incredible enthusiasm and
we could use that!) Once again, we're looking for a new bass player. Someone
who is on the same page with us and ready & willing to go full steam
ahead toward our ultimate goal. So, get in touch. -rg.
9/9/04:
Special thanks to the few friends that
made it out to our Saints N' Sinners show on Tuesday night. We
had a great time as always there & you're support means the world
to us. How cool was that to hear everyone sing the ending to 'So
Long'??? Very cool to us! So, Mike B.'s away on business for most
of this month, and we officially don't have anymore shows booked. We're
going to use this time to get the final mix of 'Now Or Never' mastered,
finish the cover layout and look into the whole duplication process. Meaning,
if all goes well, we'll have a completed version of the new Pretty
Polly the next time we play out. That's all for now. Please check
out the current mixes on the 'Now
Or Never' page. -rg.
8/31/04:
I picked up the final mixes from Sean last
night, and they're GREAT!!! Have a listen on either the MP3
page or read along & listen on the 'NOW
OR NEVER' page. All that's left at this point is
a master session & we're going to go full steam ahead on all the album
artwork, which for the most part has already been decided on. We're looking
into a few duplication options, so we're optimistic that we'll have these
bad boys ready very soon. We have one show booked for Sept.
7th at Saints N Sinners, and then Mike B. will be out most
of the month on business. So, in that time we're going to work on the
CD and CD samplers for our new-found street teamers. Any help is much
appreciated, so if you'd like to hand out flyers & CD samplers on
our behalf, then please e-mail
us and let us know. Is everyone on MY
SPACE yet? We've got a profile up on there at www.myspace.com/prettypolly.
Signing up is free, so join up and befriend us on there. We've also got
a profile up on Pure Volume @ www.purevolume.com/prettypolly.
After all we've been thru in the past year... we're happy to finally being
close to releasing a recording that the entire band is really proud of.
So, thanks to those true-believers who still support. To hell with the
rest whom don't. And we hope you'll stick with us for the next few months.
It should be an exciting time. Cheers! -rg.
8/23/04:
Wow. It seems like every couple of days
we have new mixes. Actually, thats because we DO have new mixes
every couple of days! My vocal session with Sean the other night went
smoothly with great results. I added some backing vocals, harmonies and
doubles to strengthen what we already had. Most notable different is 'Lesson
Learned', which now boasts some harmonies & and some of the
highest notes I've ever hit. (listen closely towards the end at the
'now i'm gone...' part). I added second vocals to the choruses of
'So Long'. And we also tweaked the drums and guitars and
made them more prominent in the first 3 songs. Have a listen on our MP3
page. The snare in 'So Comfortable' sounds
sick! Besides that, we're getting ready to set up a ton of shows and finish
up the artwork for the new CD. Thanks for all the positive vibes. It's
really key to what's been keeping us going strong. So, cheers to you.
-rg.
8/20/04:
Hey folks. We've added some "newer"
mixes from the upcoming CD 'Now Or Never' to the MP3
& Now Or Never
pages. Check them out. I'll be going into the studio for some more vocal
sessions tonight (mostly some background vocal stuff) and after
that, we'll crank on final mixes and a master. The CD is almost done!
Be patient! We've decided to really take out time with this one and make
it as good as we possibly can. Special thanks to all those who came out
for the b-day bash/shows. We had a GREAT time and it was fun to play with
our pals in Oh
Sea T and Espada.
So thank you for making it a memorable evening. More to come. -rg.
8/1/04:
So, the last two shows really sucked!!!
Which means the next two have GOT to be good!!! We apologize to anyone
at the Village Pub show tonight for the terrible sound quality. We're
pretty sure the sound-guy was drunk & no one heard anything properly.
Either way, we'd like to thank Brian for inviting us out and our friends
'Espada'
for jumping on the bill with us on such short notice. Next two shows should
be good ones. Saints N Sinners on Wednesday August 11th and a HUGE b-day
bash on Saturday August 14th with Espada and Oh
Sea T. (for Robg. of Pretty Polly & Lauren of
Espada's birthdays!) Check out the LIVE
page for info. Also, we've updating the 'NOW
OR NEVER' page, with complete lyrics, downloadable MP3's
and a few images. Yep, all 5 tracks are now officially available. Check
out either the 'NOW OR NEVER'
page or our MP3 page
to download them now. They are still unmastered, but this is pretty close
to what the final versions will sound like, so download them to keep and
enjoy! Pretty Polly is now also on MY
SPACE. Visit our page and befriend us at: www.MySpace.com/prettypolly.
And you can find other tracks on our Pure
Volume page as well. (www.purevolume.com/prettypolly)
More to come. Thanks for still checking in on us. Oh, go see Stevie D.'s
other band, Bricks For Shoulders @ Saint N Sinners this upcoming
Tuesday night. The address is on our LIVE
page. Visit BricksForShoulders.com.
7/19/04:
So, the waiting is just about over. We've
got 3 of the new songs available on the MP3
Page, and the last two tracks should be ready within
the next few days. The band is currently in the process of making the
album cover and artwork. We've got some cool ideas as of now, so once
we finalize everything, you'll be sure to see it on this very site. We'll
also be putting together FREE sampler cd's which will contain 3
tracks off 'Now Or Never' for all of our out-of-state street
teamers. So, if you want to help us out by handing out some flyers and
samplers, e-mail
us your mailing address and let us know. Lots of shows on the
horizon. We're glad to be doing a few ALL AGES gigs out in suffolk, including
this upcoming Saturday's Cedar Beach show. Please come on down and say
hello. Come mid-August we will have a HUGE special show planned
as part of a CD release party. More on that soon. What do you think
of the new MP3's???
-rg.
7/13/04:
Sorry for the delay in updates! Times are
hectic and there's so much to talk about, but before anything... let's
hear some NEW music! We got 3 of the 5 tracks off our upcoming
CD 'Now Or Never' on the MP3
page! CHECK THEM
OUT NOW!!! They're also posted on our Pure
Volume page as well. New shows
are coming up including a Cedar Beach show on July 24th. Last Cedar
Beach show was amongst one of our all time best shows, so do NOT
miss this one! Thanks for being patient and nice. Let us know what you
think of the new MP3's.
-rg.
7/5/04:
Check out the updated and final lyric sheet
for the upcoming CD 'Now Or Never' here.
It will open in a new window. The music is on it's way.
7/4/04:
So much has happened since last post. Sorry
for the delay in updates. It's been THAT busy lately. The new Pretty
Polly CD is done!!! We finished up the final vocal tracks about a
week and a half ago and right now, we're just waiting on the final mix,
which we'll hopefully have any day now. As soon as we get it, it will
be posted on the site, so be on the look out. We promise it'll be well
worth the wait. We are all collectively very proud of this release. We
also were part of the fantastic PROM NIGHT 666
show last weekend at Ultra Sound Lounge. Although, we played very
early in the day, the entire event turned out to be a blast. We'd like
to personally thank all of those who went out of their way to get there
early to catch our set. (Which consisted of the 5 new songs off our upcoming
CD, in order!!!) And of course, special thanks to Jay Alvino for putting
together yet another great Prom Night show. Thursday, July 1st we did
a show at Saints N Sinners out in Smithtown, and yet again we need to
send out some thanks to those who made it a special show. Our buddy Charlie
who books the Situation Thursday shows couldn't be there due to personal
reasons, so our thoughts were and still are with him. We'd like to thank
Saints N Sinners owner Sean Bell for being so great to us and helping
make the show run as smoothly as possible. We appreciate it & love
that they played horror movies thru-out the evening! We're going to concentrate
on finishing the CD for now but be on the lookout for a few more shows
by the end of July on the live
page.
6/15/04:
So last night we went into the studio and
completed the bass tracks. All of the music for the new Pretty Polly
CD is officially done and in the can. All that's left is one vocal session
tentatively set for this upcoming Friday and then it's up to Sean to mix
this bad boy. Last night went rather smooth. Mike did a good job, despite
the distractions of Steve, who kept telling bad jokes and making fart
noises thru a paper towel role. We got to hear back all the music for
the tracks in rough format and so far, so amazing! We've got some GREAT
shows coming up so
please come down and show your support for both if possible. Thursday
night we're at the Village
Pub South (formally Wrong Way Inn) over in Amityville.
(same place where all that HORROR went down) and then Saturday
night at the USL.
(right across the street from Ritual where everyone ELSE seems to go)
We're running really low on the band fund, so it'd really help and be
appreciated if you can come out, support these shows, and if you have
some extra cash, buy a t-shirt or a CD. All of it will go straight into
the completion of our new CD. Thanks again to Sean. Thanks again to all
of you (you know whom you are) for being 100% behind us on this,
and for always being patient and for always showing us that you believe
in what we're doing. Fuck everyone else.
6/10/04:
Surprise, surprise! Robg. ended up going
into the studio last night instead of tonight and now all the drums AND
guitar tracks are done for the new Pretty Polly CD. All
that's left are 2 more sessions. One for bass and one for vocals. Then
some mixing. Hopefully we'll have the entire thing done shortly. And once
again, Sean's doing a great job of capturing the definitive Pretty
Polly recording. We can't wait to share it with all of you. We've
also added a bunch of shows thru-out the summer, so check out the gigs
page. We hope to see you all at a few of them. The band is
currently trying to set up some out of state shows for the late summer.
If ANYONE can help us book a few shows, please contact
us with any info & help you can. We tried to book a show
in Connecticut and were told we'd have to sell 50 tickets at $10 a piece
in advance. None of us have ever been to Connecticut. How the hell are
we going to sell 50 advance tickets!? We don't know ONE person
in Connecticut, let alone 50! I'm not sure we have 50 friends here on
Long Island! Anyways, if anyone can help with out of state shows, PLEASE
get in touch!!! More to come in a few days.
6/8/04:
Lot's to report. Pretty Polly
will be performing this summer's PROM NIGHT 666.
The event is already getting a lot of press in this month's editions of
Good Times, The Inside Connection, Aural Fix, and
Long Island Entertainment. They're planning to put together some
booths in the parking lot during the show for a full flea market. Other
bands playing will include The Return,
Broken, The
Pistol Wips, a reunited Heart Machine,
the Confidentials, Middle Ground
and many, many more. For full details and band listing, check out our
live page.
We'll have advance tickets for the event by the end of the week. Advance
tix will be $6, and after they're gone, it'll be $8. All proceeds will
benefit the Pemphigus
foundation, which our good friend & event organizer
Jay Alvino had suffered from. The band is going back into the studio this
Thursday night to work a bit more on the upcoming CD. We're hoping to
have the bulk of recording done by next week. From there, we'll keep you
posted. Also, our former bassist Johnnie Walsh has picked up his
bass again and joined a new band, Soul River.
He informed us that they perform at the Continental in NYC
the first Wednesday of every month. So, why not do some shopping on St.
Marks Place for a bit, and then stop by the Continental to catch
his new band and say hello.
6/3/04:
Last night was our first recording session
for the new CD and it completely exceeded our expectations. Stevie D.
finished up his drum tracks for all 5 songs in the first night, and for
the most part nailed every song in the first take. Mad props to Steve
for really pulling it off. Just wait until you hear these new songs!!!
The only track we had to do a few takes on was the last song 'And All
You're Lacking Is Substance'. And
after the first take Sean said, "Steve... when the hell did you sneak
off and do an 8-ball of coke, because that ending was insane!" Of
course, Steve doesn't do drugs. He's just naturally wacky. He ended up
doing that song 4 more times, and it was just as awesome each and every
time. Which brings us to Sean... Sean is doing an amazing job of capturing
what we've been trying to record for years now. The definitive Polly sound.
He claims that all he does is set up mics and let's the band do all the
work, but it's far from true. We personally would like to thank Sean for
being so nice, informative & putting us at ease during this usually
tedious process. He's really doing an awesome job, and we appreciate it.
If all goes well, Robg. will be doing his guitar parts on Sunday. Keep
checking back for more updates as they progress. And keep looking to the
live page
for show updates.
6/1/04:
Summer is upon us again! First off, I'd
like to personally thank all our friends who came out to show their support
for the show at the Backstage this past weekend. Despite all the
technical difficulties (hmm... a speaker caught fire?) and other difficulties
(Robg's shoulders problems), we had a great time! Thanks to Jeff, Iron
Myk PW, Mike C., Hacksaw's brother, Amy, and of course special thanks
to Vin & Wilkie for always being so enthusiastic & loud at our
shows. We love you guys for it. Thanks also to THE
DEADMAN for inviting us. Check out their
site. This Wednesday night, we begin recording the
new Pretty Polly CD with Sean from With
Every Idle Hour. We're aiming to record 5 new songs.
Track listing should be 'So Comfortable', 'So Long', 'Lesson
Learned ', 'The Pronounciation of You' (formally Eternal
Sunshine), and 'And All You're Lacking Is Substance'. There's
a few shows
coming up in June, so check out the live page for info on that. Also,
we got a new batch in of T-shirts in Large and X-Large sizes. They're
double sided black shirts, with white
and red text & original artwork
by our buddy Raz. We sell them at shows for $10 a piece. If you don't
already own one, please show your support and buy a shirt. We're going
to use all the money we earn towards this new recording. Once it's done,
it'll be up on the site, & we'll be making & handing out samplers.
All your help is much appreciated. Check back soon for the latest. Cheers!
5/18/04:
We'll be recording our new CD with Sean
from the band With
Every Idle Hour in the next 2 weeks. We're aiming to
do 3 to 5 songs, so we'll keep you posted on our progress as the recording
date gets closer. Some shows got cancelled, but others have popped up,
so keep checking in on our Live
- upcoming gigs page for details. We made some slight
adjustments to the site again. New is the gallery
page, now featuring two sections; Pretty Polly of PAST
and PRESENT. Thanks to all of you for your
patience.
5/13/04:
We'll shortly be posting Pretty Polly's
progress. A recording is in the early stages of planning for the end of
this month, so once everything is official we'll post it on the site.
We're looking to record 3 or 4 brand new tracks. and we've got another
5 that we might record later in the summer. In the meantime, Stevie D.'s
website for his other band is officially up & running. Visit him at
Bricks
For Shoulders.com. And visit Robg. at Icons
Of Fright.com. Stay tuned. More to announce soon.
4/23/04:
Thank you to EVERYONE who made last night's
show a special event for all of us. Thanks to Charlie from Saints N Sinners
for having us. And special thanks to our friends in The
Confidentials & Protocol for playing
with us and making it an awesome show. We apologize for the cancellation
of our show tonight, but we'll be back soon. Robg. launched his horror
related website today. Go check it out at Icons
Of Fright.com.
4/20/04:
We added some flyers to the main page for
our upcoming shows, but we've just been informed that the Northport show
on Friday has been cancelled due to a fire at the venue. Read about it
here.
Thursday will be our official return and our first show back with our
new bassist. We plan on focusing all our energies to that show & encourage
you all to come down and have a good time with us. We also just placed
an order for more T-shirts, so we'll have those in stock again shortly.
New cd details are in the works. Expect an announcment soon. See you at
Saints N Sinners on Thursday night!!!
4/9/04:
New show dates added here.
Also, new lyrics for some of what we're working on right here.
More changes and updates to come.
4/6/04:
There's slight changes on the site. We
re-arranged the MP3's
page, added a listing for Steve's new CD with Bricks
For Shoulders and added a few more show
dates. The first show back will now be at Saints
N Sinners in Smithtown and we are 110% so looking forward to it!!!
Things are progressing nicely now. We finished up a few more new songs.
Among them are 'So Long', 'So Comfortable', and 2 as yet
untitled tracks. We spilt up 'There's Nothing Wrong' into 2 seperate
kick-ass songs, now titled 'Eternal Sunshine' & "Nothing's
Wrong'. Look for a few of these new songs to pop up at upcoming setlists.
Still too early to talk about a new recording but it's coming up soon.
So check back with us.
3/29/04:
Pretty Polly will
be back on track shortly. Mike B. has joined Pretty Polly as our new bassist
and the band plans on doing some gigs starting late April, so check the
LIVE
page for show details. In the meantime, Stevie D.
has been hard at work promoting a brand new CD from his band,
Bricks For Shoulders.
They're handing out free copies, so
write
Stevie D. for your copy or
just to say hi. Robg. has been hard at work on a horror related website
with his friend Mike Cucinotta called Icons
Of Fright. Check out the teaser page
at www.IconsOfFright.com.
The site launches within the month. After the few
Polly shows in late April, we should be writing some new material and
working on getting a brand new CD out. (Finally!!!) On behalf of Pretty
Polly, thank you for being so supportive, even while we were out of
action, and we look forward to sharing the new version of the band with
you at our upcoming shows. Thanks to you!
3/12/04:
Change is coming. Stay posted for a new
site look, a bold new band direction and a new CD, titled "Now
Or Never".
2/28/04:
Not much going on with the Pretty Polly
camp. Robg. is taking a quick break from music & New York life by
heading over to California and then Arizona for a few weeks. In the meantime,
Stevie D. has been busy doing shows and a recording with his other band
Bricks For Shoulders. Their site should be up and running
shortly at Bricks
For Shoulders.com. They've
been making quite a fuss at their recent suffolk shows by blowing everyone
away with their sheer energy and power; even though they're a two piece
band! Polly's still looking into potential bass players, so feel free
to get in touch if you know anyone interested.
2/18/04:
We have removed the Progress page for now.
It was only meant to be up for a short time to share some of the new stuff
we were working on in raw demo format. The lyric page is still available
though. The band has kept in contact with Johnnie, and later in the year
he plans on going into business with a friend to do mastering for CD's.
We will keep you posted on his activities, as well as the rest of ours
within the next few months.
2/13/04:
Happy Friday the 13th!!!
We've added a cool new page to the web-site. We wanted to try something
different, so now we added a Progress
page, so you can hear, read
and see how the next CD becomes a reality, right
from the beginning stages. So, right now head on over there to hear rough,
raw, and/or acoustic versions of brand new Pretty Polly. Just keep
in mind that the quality isn't the best. We posted these for those of
you who are as excited as we are about the new stuff & to show you
how much difference a good recording will make. If all goes well, we'll
be in the studio by late March. We're meeting with several musicians about
playing bass for us, so we'll keep you posted. The 2nd round of The
Inside Connection's tourer 495 contest has been booked for
April 27th
at a venue in Long Beach. We're confident that we'll
be ready to go for this show, so check back for details.
2/6/04:
Sadly, for personal reasons, Johnnie has
left the band permanently. Robg. & Stevie D. would like to thank him
for his time, hard work and efforts in Pretty Polly this past year
and a half. We had an amazing time together. The band will move forward.
They have decided to postpone the next CD recording session until a new
bass player is secured. Anyone interested in trying out can contact
us with all your info here. In the meantime,
our good friend Mikey from The
Pistol Wips sent us this great
teaser
image of the next Pretty Polly
release which we have added to the fan
art page. Click here
to open it in a new window. No worries. Once a new
bassist is secured, Pretty Polly will be back and better then
ever. Check back this Sunday, as the band plans on posting some acoustic
MP3's of some of the brand new songs as well as lyrics
to tide you over. Thanks again to everyone for their
support and concern. Don't be strangers. Write us. Robg.
Stevie
D.
2/3/04:
All Pretty Polly shows & recording
sessions have been postponed. The band is officially on hiatus as of now.
Check back soon for more details.
1/22/04:
It's been a very odd year for Pretty
Polly so far. One week ago today, Johnnie's father passed away. At
the moment, he's doing fine and he appreciates all of your concerns for
him and his family. The band is very honored to have such good friends
whom have come to support him at this difficult time. At the moment he's
taking some personal time to himself and we eagerly await his return.
Otherwise, writing sessions have been going rather well the past month.
Steve & Rob just put the finishing touches on two more brand new songs
tonight titled "There's Nothing Wrong" & "So
Long". Between these two new ones, and the already written "So
Comfortable" and "Capital D (for diagnosis)",
this is going to be one of the best Polly releases yet. In related news,
the band have decided to record the next CD with Chris
Fasulo, who was responsible for the "Getting
Over It" EP. That still remains one of Pretty Polly's favorite
recordings, so we felt he'd do our next CD justice and we look forward
to working with him again. The CD is going to be called
"Now Or Never",
and recording sessions are tentatively scheduled for mid-February. Mid-February
is also when the band is looking to return to playing live, so check the
live page
for details as they become available. Thank you
again for your continued interest and support. We hope to see you all
soon.
1/5/04:
Happy new year and welcome to the Pretty
Polly news page for 2004. Thank you to all those that came down
for the show on the 2nd at Molly Blooms 2. Special thanks to Bob for booking
us at his new venue & for being an all around nice fellow. Thanks
to show openers Ten
Years Without You from Queens for
coming out. (Despite trying to trade slots with us and use all our equipment.)
To start out, we added a brand new picture
gallery page focusing on
The Year That Was 2003 for
Pretty Polly. We had a lot of great shows, met a lot of cool people &
had a lot of good times. Head on over to the Year
That Was 2003 page and check out all the
pics. There's a ton of photos we've never posted on the site contributed
by friends & fans. So, the next month will consist of writing and
recording for our next CD. We don't have a concrete working title as of
yet, but figuring out that stuff is half the fun, so we'll keep you posted
on the ongoing process. We have 2 songs confirmed & those will be
'So Comfortable' & 'Capital D'. We might re-record a
few of the newer songs off the LIVE EP, but we'll definitely have 3 brand
new songs too. All in all we promise to deliver something special. Feel
free to get in touch & let us know what's on your minds in the meantime.
